WNYmedia.net
One of my largest projects to date, the development of the newest version of WNYmedia.net (a Buffalo-area news organization) required months of planning and numerous design mockups. Taking design cues from the popular "Comfy" WordPress newsmagazine theme, I reconfigured the design to be more colorful and unique, not to mention faster and more efficient. With the assistance of Jacob Peddicord, we were able to transition over 14,000 posts from previous Mu installations into this new, more organized setup.

Gorman for Hamburg
I was approached to design a simple website for John Gorman, a Western New York native running for political office. Eschewing the traditional red, white, and blue, this website design opted for liberal use of Gorman's campaign color - green (matching flyers, banners, and signs). The site is multimedia heavy, featuring numerous pictures, videos, and links to social media pages.

ZoomCopy
ZoomCopy sought a funky, urban theme with bold colors and strong design sensibility, reflecting their business. They also wanted to incorporate a blog functionality, to house their popular corporate blog. WordPress was a clear solution, and this site was the result.

Becky McCray
Regular client Becky McCray wanted to spice up her personal website landing page, making it more effective for those looking to contact her or connect with her. Using a picture from her photo collection, I built a simple but attractive page incorporating links to her personal blog, projects, and social media websites that she frequently visits.

(td)squared
As part of the University at Buffalo Theatre & Dance department's push toward an increased online presence, the technology and design program put into place (td)squared, a collaborative blog for sharing news, ideas, opinions, and other stage design or technology related news. The website uses a custom WordPress function that enables pages to act as individual blogs, a function that has since been put to use on several other websites.

Croydon High School
I worked on this design for a private girls school in the United Kingdom, focusing on usability for the public (in accordance with UK law), giving teachers the ability to submit content, and providing a readable, clean design for end users. Drupal was chosen to provide a flexible platform that would permit submission of content, moderating capabilities, and give school staff the ability to manage the website themselves.

Teens in Tech
Contacted to develop a theme for this young start-up, I worked directly with founder Daniel Brusilovsky and his team to create an efficient and slick look based on mockups I was given. The theme, used only in the beta phase of the application, also included custom button and logo development. WordPress Mu was put in place for this job, and heavy modifications were made to accomodate a number of key features the Teens in Tech team was requesting.

BroadBlue (BroadDev)
Silicon Valley technology everyman John Furrier needed a custom WordPress theme to kick off a new blog that focused on Unified Communications in the enterprise technology industry. John spoke with me, and after determining his goals and desires for the site, this template, dubbed "BroadBlue", was born. A highly flexible template, BroadBlue makes strong use of WordPress widgets, ad space, and a unique comment form.

Red Carpet Country
A great web presence can transform the marketing for a rural organization, as Becky McCray (rural social media consultant) knows well. That's why she chose Vaveo Interactive to handle the redesign of Red Carpet Country, a local tourism website. Using WordPress, we created a new, more effective design that kept existing content and recharacterized a logo. With the new WordPress backend, the site is more easy to manage than ever, and its lively new look has energized Red Carpet Country on the web.

Mohawk Central School
The Mohawk Central School District needed a quick, temporary redesign to communicate crucial information regarding a budget vote. With that timeline in mind, we set to work with all cylinders operating on a website that not only fulfilled their short-term needs, but expanded to include other information to capture other web surfers. The website was a success, and although it has been redesigned since the budget vote has passed, its influence on its successor is clearly visible.

All-Occasions DJ
Looking to communicate their services to a wider audience, All-Occasions DJ looked our way for a simple but classy website to showcase their company. We used our exclusive Amalia platform to develop an easy-to-manage website, and incorporated video footage and still imagery into a custom opening multimedia presentation. This was the first deployment of our Amalia platform, and served as a test-bed for this content management software.

Livelocity
The first of two start-up enterprises I've worked on, Livelocity was developed as iTunes for the masses. Livelocity enabled any user to upload and sell music, with a small service fee being deducted. Livelocity featured cutting edge JavaScript development, as well as integration with PayPal to handle payment transactions. Ultimately closed due to DMCA restrictions, the service was a collaboration between myself, Jacob Peddicord, and Peter Upfold. Portions of the codebase were used to form Peter's award-winning SleekTabs.

YouMakeMedia
One of the blogs that kicked off the Oratos Media network, YouMakeMedia filled a unique niche - covering user-generated content (and more specifically, how to create it). YouMakeMedia reviewed the best downloads, the top hardware, and all the necessities for being the next big YouTube star. In addition to being the lead writer and head editor, I was the designer and developer of this WordPress-powered website.

Death And Taxes
Ever wondered what your taxes pay for? Death and Taxes, an interactive poster created by Vermont artist Jess Bachman, will help you breakdown exactly what you're paying for when you send off your check to the government every year. I created the first version of his website, for the second edition of his poster. The site also features a unique "Send to Congress" feature, as well as custom PayPal development.

Stolen Infatuation
A local rock band was looking to help their fans connect on the web, and turned to me for an effective solution. Rather than falling back on Flash (the standard tool for band websites), I used clever CSS design to create a modular design that integrated fully into a dynamic backend (for content manipulation and user feedback, as well as multimedia playback). The site is fully dynamic across screen resolutions and uses entirely standardized coding technology.

GizBuzz
Another founding blog of the Oratos Media network, GizBuzz focused on technology and web 2.0. Edited by Huw Leslie, GizBuzz featured podcasts and interviews with the movers and shakers of the internet world, reviews of the latest web applications, and important information for internet professionals. I was the designer and developer of this site, powered by WordPress. I also was an occasional contributer, and helped with graphics throughout the site's lifespan.

SopCast
SopCast is an internet television application that was looking to implement a more playful theme. I provided this suggestion, incorporating primary colors and fun images that communicated the global aspect of SopCast's mission. A media browser was designed to show off SopCast programming at any given time of the day, and provide information about shows and events. The homepage also featured a JavaScript image navigator.

Cool-Teens: Redesign
After the success of the original Cool-Teens theme I created (navigate further to the right for details), I was contacted again to create a redesign. With a focus on content this time around, I developed a style that used the traditional green color more sparingly and made more room for user-created content. Although the theme itself is not in use, the logo and several aspects of the navigation bar have been retained as the site transitions toward being solely focused on its forum community.

Comitar Studios
Comitar Studios served as the title of a film production collective created by myself and friends. To showcase our work, I developed a website that would allow users to browse, view, purchase, and share thoughts on our videos. The site was based on a custom implementation of WordPress, phpBB, and a custom CMS. Several JavaScript techniques were used to animate portions of the site, and Flash was used for video playback and image rotation. PayPal was used to power the video download store.

CCN
Contracted again by the folks behind Cool-Teens, I was responsible now for developing a front end for the web-based portion of Community Chat Network, and IRC server. I used bright colors and a clean, small design to easily communicate information about the server. Access to the web based chat was placed up front with a large "Launch Chat" option. A combination of HTML and CSS was used - content was entirely static in nature.

Cool-Teens
Comissioned to revitalize the look of an online teen hangout, I turned to grunge influences to develop this look. Using the site's standard green colors, I developed a news posting format and content boxes that could be easily replicated to expand or modify content. The design was completed in static HTML and served as a portal to the more dynamic tools that Cool-Teens provided (forums, chat, etc.).
