They love us, they really do

Huw recently shared the news that he had been accepted into the Text-Link-Ads publisher program.
Somewhat jealous, I signed up as well, expecting the worse. Surprisingly, I was instantly accepted, no strings attached. I don’t know how I’ll fare - I submitted as an “other” because I actually fit into two primary categories!
We’ll see what happens though, I’m optimistic. Hopefully this will help me produce more top quality stuff over at YouMakeMedia and the Oratos Network, as well as some original content here.

I’m sure you have already heard about the Genarlow Wilson bullshit, but I’ll link to it here as well. Something needs to be done.
Genarlow Wilson sits in prison despite being a good son, a good athlete and high school student with a 3.2 GPA. He never had any criminal trouble. On the day he was to sit for the SAT, at seventeen years old, his life changed forever. He was arrested. In Douglas County he was accused of inappropriate sexual acts at a News Year’s Eve party. A jury acquitted him of the allegation of Rape but convicted him of Aggravated Child Molestation for a voluntary act of oral sex with another teenager. He was 17, and she was 15.

I wrote a GizBuzz article about the recently formed FreeNation foundation. You can read more and digg it here…

I found a great website today, the IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project). It is very tough to find high quality classical (or other miscellaneous public domain) sheet music. Fortunately, this site has a great collection (and it is powered by MediaWiki software, so you too can upload and edit!). I also linked to the site in my sidebar, via del.icio.us.
On the subject of classical music, I’m seeking a recording of Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien” (”Caprice Italien” in the French form). I can’t justify paying $0.99 at this stage (especially when I now have the sheet music sitting in front of me, so I suppose I could record my own version), but I would like to listen to it again so I can decide if I want to arrange this piece or another for the Music Theory class I take.
…..
I have wrapped up the article for GizBuzz about the FreeNation Foundation. I’m planning to publish it on Tuesday (Google Analytics stats never fail to display Tuesday as our busiest day).
…..
Tchaikovsky is so awesome. He really is. If you haven’t already, go to ClassicCat.net and download some of his stuff. It blows me away to no end. Also, I would be most remissed if I failed to mention Antonin Dvorak, another phenomenal composer. Yes, I am a romantic era junkie.

My New Design
Sunday, January 14, 2007
I finally sat down and executed codename Rosebud, the redesign of my blog.
Rosebud, as film aficionados know, is the name of the sled that Charles Foster Kane owned as a child in Orson Welles’ classic, Citizen Kane. The term has no relevance to this blog other than Citizen Kane is one of the best movies I have seen, and one of the fist words that came to my mind.
The design has six key points (though only four are operational). They are:
- Zooomr photos - Not operational. A stream of the latest photos from my Zooomr account.
- Twitter updates - As a card carrying member of the church of Twitter, I routinely post updates to this addictive site. I decided it made sense to display these updates here.
- Current song (from Last.fm/Audioscrobbler) - Not operational. Since I moved to OS X, I have also started using Last.fm. I do not use it so much for social purposes, though they’re interesting - rather to display my current track across the web.
- Shared Items from Google Reader - I doubt I’ll keep up on this as much as I would like to, as the application I’m using to read Google Reader doesn’t easily allow me to mark items to my shared feed. I will try though.
- Del.icio.us bookmarks - I bought a license for the wonderful Pukka today, because I realized I had so many links I never remembered to write down. I am a fan of del.icio.us, so I hope this will keep my bookmarks in order.
- Blog - First and foremost this site is a blog. Updates, as always, will be sporadic (at best), short and sweet, but most of all boring.
I hope you enjoy my new site design. It is not quite done yet, but I’m working on it.
Let me know any errors you come across…
