Amanda goes to PopURLs •  Sunday, August 27, 2006

Amanda Congdon is doing a new side project with PopURLs. PopURLs is an aggregator of links from the biggest sites like Digg, Newsvine, YouTube, Flickr, and all the rest. She’ll pick a few of her favorites (weekly, I believe) and post them for community consumption.

Scoble seems to think though that this isn’t the smartest idea, for her, or for PopURLs. Personally I disagree, but I’m not as experienced as Scoble so I’m likely wrong. His argument is that she needs to be focusing on more video projects. He says that since she’s been focused on video for the past year, it only makes sense for her to continue to help maintain her image as a video star.

To me the web is about opportunity. If Amanda thinks that this PopURLs project is something that will help her and her audience (see, web 2.0 helps everyone!) then by all means go for it. Old media confined people, new media encourages open borders.

yeah.

PodDev 2 •  Wednesday, August 23, 2006

I have a feeling that PodDev two is going to be interesting… Let’s put it this way… my experience with computers has not been stellar this past night. You’ll hear more in the show. Maybe I’ll replace that “weird AOL” bit with a rant.

Huw is joining us (yay), Peter again, Jacob’s away, me, and as usual, special guest.

PodDev 3 will be better, if, for once, we can get all four of us together to record. Someone’s always on holiday.

The Learning Locker •  Tuesday, August 15, 2006

I know first hand that teachers are overworked and undersupported. Both my parents are teachers (music and third grade) and I see how they are so underappreciated for their work.

Imagine my surprise when I stumble across a post about a proposed non-profit called “The Learning Locker”. This non profit would help teachers get school supplies for their classrooms more easily, helping them avoid paying out of their paycheck (which many teachers do). Budget situations in schools are so bad that many teachers simply have no choice but to do this, they aren’t allocated enough money.

Check out the post here - http://lagesse.org/?p=13

This is a project that I’ll definitely support and promote. This is something that could do a world of good for those people who make America what it is.

postscript - I do free website design for non-profits. My portfolio is on the left. This applies here as well (hint hint)

PodDev (The Website) •  Tuesday, August 15, 2006

I feel I may have neglected the PodDev website yesterday.

Yes, the PodDev website is pretty awesome too! We have lots of nifty features that we’ve been working on for a few weeks.

You can get a super neato link button! Those are located at the links/buttons page.

You can also check out biographies. They’re in progress, but expect them to be finished by the next show.

We have transcripts!

So yeah that’s pretty much some of the cool stuff. Of course you can check out the podcast too… see yesterday’s post for that.
