Stupid government uses proprietary formats and doesn’t include a download button, leading me on a wild goose chase to the file’s source (and eventually to a convertor!!!).

Quick update on the DVDs -

I just polished off the chapters.  I’m working now on a photo compilation thing based on the Flickr photos (I can’t find the others that I had, but if I do they will be on there as well).

I’m recording the producer/director commentary something this week, and putting together a short blooper reel as well.

The wheels are in motion!

Can a Mini-Series be a Movie? •  Monday, March 13, 2006

Anderson2C20Sherwood.201919.20Winesburg2C20Ohio

I’m of the schoool of thought that basically says short stories work better than long stories when being adapted to film form.

So here’s my thang… we have this freaking amazing story, Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio, but the problem is that its long.

The thing about long stories is that you have to cut stuff, and its not fun by any means. It takes away from the narrative value that stories have. Its a pain in the arse, and annoying.

However, when you adapt a short story, you can safely add stuff, and widen dialogue. Look at Brokeback, or Shawshank (okay, its a novella, but it isn’t quite W,O length), or The Green Mile. These were all short stories that got adapted into beautiful films.

It can work for epics, look at the LotR films. They did face a crap load of obstacles in cutting certain scenes though.

I see Winesburg, Ohio best as a mini-series, if its kept closest to source form. However I think it would make an awesome movie.

I’m kind of struggling here, stay very true to the source in a mini web series… or make an awesome feature length?
